The experiment so far
On 10 October 2026, I committed to filming my Instagram Reels only with Ray-Ban Meta glasses, and only with consent. I also invited women who chose to take part to wear my glasses and film me. The question: what changes when we change the person who is looking?
The collaboration
Chapter two turns that question into a dialogue. I’m collaborating with Denise Wiersma, the first artist to join the experiment as a creative partner. We will both wear the glasses and film each other.
Two gazes, one frame
The film theorist Laura Mulvey named the male gaze in her 1975 essay Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema. For centuries, visual culture has often shown women through men’s eyes.
This collaboration puts both gazes on record. Most of the work centres on Denise’s gaze: she films me, and I become her subject. Then we swap, and I film her, openly and with her consent. Seen side by side, the same moment through a woman’s eyes and a man’s shows what each of us notices, frames and leaves out.
Neither of us speaks for a whole gender. There is no single female gaze or male gaze. Each of us brings our own.
Who is Denise Wiersma?
Denise Wiersma is a performer, actress, dancer and freelance musician from Patagonia, Argentina, now based in Aarhus.
In 2018 she co-starred in the two-hander Predestinados, directed by Gustavo Lioy, at the Centro Cultural Eduardo Galeano in El Bolsón. She has danced since childhood and creates Cocina Sessions, comic kitchen-dance reels with the motto “Some say kitchen, I say dance floor.” In her own work, she already decides how she is seen.
Who is FatbikeHero?
FatbikeHero is Tendai Frank Tagarira, an award-winning performance artist, author and filmmaker based in Aarhus. He is known for costumed street performance on an electric fatbike, bringing smiles to strangers, and human-made art that questions technology.
Inviting participants
From time to time, we will invite people we meet to spice up the experiment: to wear the glasses, film one of us, or join the frame. Every guest adds another gaze.
Consent rules
- No one is filmed without saying yes.
- Consent to recording is not consent to publication. We ask again before posting.
- The glasses’ recording light is never covered.
- Identifiable bystanders are cropped or blurred where appropriate.
- Children are never published without explicit parental consent.
- Denise and I share authorship and both decide what is published.
The 4 S’s
- Spontaneous: we plan the invitation, not the outcome.
- Self-Funded: no sponsor decides what the art says.
- Sovereign: everyone keeps control of their image and voice.
- Smiles: if it doesn’t make someone smile, it isn’t finished.
What’s next
Expect music, movement and comedy, filmed by Denise, by me and sometimes by people we meet in Aarhus. I will share monthly transparency updates on Instagram Stories so the process stays open to scrutiny.
